- 4 Cylinder
2015 Polaris Slingshot SL. In 2015 there were two models sold. The base model, which was gray and the SL, which was red and black.
8763 miles. I am still driving the vehicle, so the miles will be a little higher that this. I am the only owner. I bought it new.
This vehicle has a 2.4 liter Chevrolet DOHC in-line 4 cylinder water cooled engine. It is the same engine that was put in the HHR sedan. After the transmission there is a driveshaft that goes to an angle drive. The angle drive powers a drive belt that drives the back wheel. It develops 173 HP and 166 ft/lbs or torque at 4700 RPM. The vehicle weights 1700 pounds. That is a 10:1 weight to horsepower. That is in the same class as the Chevrolet Corvette. The published highway mileage was over 30 MPG. I apparently drive faster that the person getting the average highway mileage, or maybe it is the mountains in SoCal. I have gotten more like 29-30 MPG on the highway. The Slingshot will cruise all day long at 80 MPH up and down hills with no strain.
This vehicle has always been garage kept and has NEVER been driven in the rain. It is not my only vehicle, so if it is going to rain, I take something else. The vehicle was purchased in El Cajon, CA, is titled in California and registered and insured in Nevada. I hold a clear title, there is not loan on the vehicle.
The vehicle came with the sound system, blue tooth for Apple products, the larger wheels and the back up camera. This is a very useful option on this vehicle. The sound system has the automatic volume control. The faster you go the louder the sound system operates.
These vehicles come with a lockable storage compartment behind each seat. This is very convenient for storage of jackets, gloves and helmets. It will fit a medium sized back pack. They are 'watertight', so your stuff will not get wet from the rain, should you be caught out when it rains. There is also a 12 volt outlet in the center between and behind the seats. There is also a USB outlet in the glove compartment to keep your devices charged up while driving. I do occasionally lock the glove compartment, depending upon where and when I park. Usually, in SoCal and Nevada, I leave my helmet/helmets, jackets, gloves, Starbucks insulated drink container sitting in the cockpit when I park. I have never had any problems with theft, so far.
I added an aftermarket top purchased though Sling Mods. I added a spacer to raise the plexi glass sections slightly for additional head clearance. I also got tired of the wind blowing on the side of my head from the roof vent, so I made the plexiglass cover for the intake port on the front of the top. It is held in place with a magnet and pops right out if one prefers "more air" in the cockpit
There are some scratches on the front center black piece from my garage door handle that I picked up when I parked too close to the door. Aside from that, the Slingshot is free of any blemishes. I had Malcolm Smith Motorcycles, in Riverside, CA, do two recall repairs last summer. An added security feature is the 5 speed manual transmission. Not only does this make the Slingshot fun to drive, with the near disappearance of manual transmissions, the only people that know how to drive them are above the typical age of the every day vehicle thief. The younger bad guys do not know how to operate a manual transmission. This is a very technologically sophisticated vehicle. There are 18 warning/condition lights that alert the driver of any problem with the engine, anit lock braking system, stability control, traction control, etc. Located in Rialto, CA
